Board members and staff offer their top four albums/songs for the month. Remember while playing these toons, pay attention to these five things while listening: 1) Instrumentation 2) Structure 3) Style 4) Technique & 5) Lyrics.

This month the entire team shifted our focus to House music. With the release of Drake’s new album, Honestly, Nevermind, and Beyonce’s single, Break My Soul, House music has been ushered back in to the lime light. And how bright that light can shine! 

Well for starters, what is House music? The first thing that comes to mind is the repetitive beat, its described as “four-on-the-floor.” The next thing that comes to mind is the high energy and fast tempo that makes you want to get up and dance. House music originated in the underground clubs of Chicago in the late 70’s as disco music was fading out. And since then, House music has been producing hit after hit for decades. From Pump Up The Jam to Gypsy Woman to Drake’s Falling Back or Beyonce’s Break My Soul, House music is a genre that can not be denied. Maybe you like it, maybe you don’t, but as a music connoisseur and/or just simply a lover of music, I suggest you give House music a shot. So turn up your radio and get ready to hit the dance floor!
