Practice Practice Practice

One of sports most memorable rants of recent times is Allen Iverson’s famous “Practice” interview. If you have not seen it, please do yourself a favor and check it out (click here).

No matter what your feelings are on Iverson’s infamous interview, practice is important in ways that can not be described. Being committed to practice speaks to your level of discipline. As an artist/creative we thrive on being free, however, if we ignore practice we do a disservice to the people we intend to serve and to ourselves. To a certain degree, practice, is the ultimate sign of self respect. We can’t expect to get better at our craft if we don’t love and nurture our gift, and this starts with practice. Below are seven steps to help you get started with a routine to make practice a staple in your everyday life.

How To Practice

  1. 1. Create an atmosphere/have the right mindset
  2. 2. Warm Up
  3. 3. Have a goal: Start with he end in mind
  4. 4. Be realistic
  5. 5. Identify and overcome the problems
  6. 6. Record yourself (if possible)
  7. 7. Reward yourself

This Months Lesson Plan: The Art of Practicing. This months goal is to be able to play drums flawlessly, in time with the metronome.  Also, to be able to play a chord progression on a created beat.
