Influential Women In Music

With JAH, the only way to celebrate Women’s History Month is to shine the spotlight on some amazing women performers and producers throughout music history. Unfortunately, we will not be able to give all of them their flowers in this short news post, so we are counting on you to leave us a comment on some of the women in music that have been most influential too you. With that said, let’s get started!

Betty Davis – If Prince and Tina Turner had a baby, Betty Davis would be it. She was married to the great Miles Davis and is featured on the the cover of his Filles de Kilimanjaro album. Know for her controversial sexually oriented lyrics and performance style, she was giving WAP before Cardi B and Meg were even born. Her album, “They Say Im Different” is a must have!

H.E.R.- this Grammy Award winning enigma hails from Vallejo, Ca. and is still in her twenties. In other words, she has only just begun! Her smooth styles speak of a maturity that is older than her years and at the same time, she comes off as a young, hip new school R&B trendsetter. Recommendation, start with the 2016 album H.E.R. and just press play.

WondaGurl – You may not know who she is but I am sure you have heard one of her songs. She has produced songs for SZA (Teen Spirit), Drake (Fair Trade), Rihanna (B*@ch Better Have My Money), and Masego (Mystery Lady)just to name a few. Whatever music style you need she is a certified hit maker. Type her name in to iTunes and get ready to get your boogie on.
